This year marks 10 years since the 1st Greenwich Based Panto Horse Race (then known as the Greenwich Pantomime Horse Race) first trotted out onto the heady streets of Greenwich, back in 2009. Since then, the race has grown rapidly, from a locally based community event to now becoming known throughout the world that regularly features race teams competing in the annual madcap London race, from over the UK and overseas.
The increasing popularity of the race event has seen regular TV & press coverage nationally and across the world. The awareness of the annual race has helped us raise many thousands for children’s’ based charities in the process and has also helped give additional media /public awareness of the vital work the charities provide.
The success of the event would not be possible without the amazing support it has received from the general public & in particular, the wonderful Greenwich community.
On a slightly sadder note, this year will also be the final London Pantomime Horse Race, that long time organiser Mark Biddiss will be arranging. Since making the announcement in December 2018, he has been touched by many people who have expressed their sadness by the news. For 10 years, Mark has thrown himself into putting the event on each year and is delighted by how popular it has become but at 10 years at the helm, it’s time to hang up the saddle. However, this doesn’t mean the end of the ‘London Pantomime Horse Race’ if he can find a committed and experienced event organiser or events team, who could take on the event and build on its success and popularity and help grow it further into something much bigger.
If there are dedicated event organisers or teams, that would like to discuss taking over the reins from 2020 onwards, then please email [email protected]
We look forward to seeing you in December for what promises to be our most memorable day!
