2014 Race Highlights

The crowds lined the streets of Greenwich for the 5th Annual London Pantomime Horse Race.

It was a case of “may the horse be with you” as Star Wars characters lined up for a special Science Fiction themed event.

10 horses (and one zebra) – raced through the streets to raise money for the Demelza Children’s Hospice in an event sponsored by top humour site The Poke.

Racing pundit John McCririck was also on hand to give punters the best odds, before the horses cantered through the starting gate at Devonport House, trying their best to avoid cars and the crowds.

Here’s how the day went…

Television pundit John McCririck donned his infamous deer-stalker, providing commentary and giving expert tips on who to back in the field before starting the race.

Speaking beforehand, he said: “Yes, I have broadcast from The Grand National, The Cheltenham Festival and The Epsom Derby, but the crowning jewel in my 33-year career will definitely be the London Pantomime Horse Race.”

Some reporters couldn’t quite take it all in…

Then Dev (aka Jimmi Harkishin) from Coronation Street turned up in a pink horse outfit borrowed from Katie Price. L1040433

It was won by The Coach & Horses pub owing to a drunken stewards enquiry.

The Pelton Arms also won, however they literally fell apart at the finish line.
